HDMS: THE REVOLUTIONARY DYNAMIC MOTOR STARTER FOR 1-PHASE SCROLL COMPRESSORS AND SUBMERSIBLE PUMPS

Eliminates the start capacitor and reduces motor starting current by 70%.

Lainate, January 2020 - Carlo Gavazzi Automation, the international electronics group with activities in the design, manufacture and marketing of electronic equipment, today is proud to present its new motor starter, the HDMS.

The HDMS is a revolutionary motor starter for single phase scroll compressors and submersible pumps.
Its unique design and control algorithm provide a solution whereby the traditional start capacitor will no longer be required. This feature is of high value to our customers because start capacitors are the components with the highest failure rates in single phase applications.

The HDMS offers a remarkable current reduction, reducing the motor starting current by an average of 70% when compared to Direct on line (DOL) starters. This makes the HDMS the ideal solution for applications where the power is limited, such as loads driven by generators or electrical inverters.

“We have been listening to and working with our customers in order to provide them with innovative solutions that bring value to their applications. The HDMS integrates all these requirements in one product. We have looked into different examples, starting from installation to troubleshooting, and focused all our design efforts to improve the product’s features accordingly,” Jason Demicoli, International Product Manager, states. “With this launch it is our intention to strengthen Carlo Gavazzi’s presence in the HVAC market segment, particularly heat pumps, and expand our business into new market applications, such as submersible pumps”.

Developed by our competence centre in Malta, the HDMS is designed to solve problems with high starting currents caused by DOL switching of motors. As it does not require the start capacitor, the HDMS offers greater reliability vs existing soft starting solutions for better current reduction performance.

LD30 SERIES: PHOTOELECTRIC LASER SENSORS WITH INTEGRATED IO-LINK COMMUNICATION

Accurate detection and long sensing range in a compact housing.

Lainate, January 2020 - Carlo Gavazzi Automation, the international electronics group with activities in the design, manufacture and marketing of electronic equipment, today presents its new series of IO-Link photoelectric laser sensors, the LD30.

These new laser sensors’ main feature is the background suppression based on the Time of Flight (ToF) sensing principle. With a sensing range of up to 1,000 mm for both black and white objects, the background suppression has been increased four times compared to previous versions, in a very compact housing. The IO-Link connections enable, among other attributions, the read-out of the actual sensing distance.

The family consists on 4 sensor types, in either plastic or stainless steel AISI316L housings, and every sensor can be configured in more than half a million combinations.

“The LD30 sensors have been developed to operate in IO-Link environments, where the sensing performance needs to be monitored and logged. Thanks to the easy and full customization of the sensors, the customers can choose from lots of combinations of settings, according to their specific requests,” Torben Rochat International Product Manager says. “With the launch of these photoelectric sensors with Tof technology, as well as the IO-Link function implementation, it is our intention to strengthen our position in the market by means of a wider offer.”

Developed in our competence centre in Denmark, these sensors have been designed to fulfill the industrial requirements in providing an accurate detection of objects of different sizes, shapes or surface structures, in the Food & Beverage, Machine tools, Packaging & Wrapping, Materials Handling and Plastic & Rubber markets. In addition, the IO-Link communication increases flexibility making settings very easy.

Main technical features
• Two separate switching signal channels (SSC)
• Long range background suppression ToF (Time of Flight) sensor with IO-Link connection for an adjustable distance of 50 to 1,000 mm, either by potentiometer or via IO-Link
• Fully configurable via output IO-Link ver. 1.1
• Each SSC can be set as: single point, two point or windows mode
• Temperature alarms and logging functions
• Logic functions: AND, OR, X-OR and Gated SR-FF
• Timer functions: delay on operate, delay on release, one-shot leading or trailing edge with timing values from 1 ms up to 32,767 min.
• Two independent outputs freely configurable: NPN, PNP, push-pull, external input or as remote teach function
