RG..M SERIES: SOLID STATE RELAYS WITH INTEGRATED MONITORING

Cost savings with timely failure detection in plug and play solutions.

Lainate, September 2018 - Carlo Gavazzi Automation, the international electronics group with activities in the design, manufacture and marketing of electronic equipment, today launches the new series of solid state relays with integrated monitoring, the RG..M.

To ensure consistency in production, machine downtime needs to be minimised, troubleshooting in case of faults has to be fast and rework has to be avoided. This is only possible if the system is monitored so malfunctions are immediately identified and resolved. The RG..M series of solid state relays integrates this monitoring function with its switching capabilities.

The RG..M series complements the basic RG solid state relays with additional features that enable detection of faults such as mains loss, load loss, short circuit and open circuit, internal errors and supply out of range. When such faults are identified, an alarm output is activated for remote signalling and a visual indication can be seen on the front face of the RG..M, related to the problematic zone.

The RG..M solid state relays are available either with or without heatsink for ratings up to 660V 65 AAC and 90 AAC respectively. The 17.8mm product width has been retained for the RG..M with ratings up to 30 AAC @ TA 40°C. For higher current ratings, up to 65 AAC, the product width extends up to 70 mm.

“Undetected faults or faults detected with delays can have costly consequences as in such cases scrap is involved and rework is necessary, leading to lost production continuity”, Dorianne Grech, International Product Manager says. “The RG..M solution integrates a monitoring function in the same footprint as a solid state relay, giving the added benefit of panel space optimisation and reduced installation costs on top of the advantages of having timely failure detection to maximise production efficiency”.

Developed by our Competence Centre in Malta, the RG..M series has been designed for heating applications where prompt detection of load or SSR failure can minimise machine downtime and reduce waste. Typical applications are plastic processing machines, semiconductor manufacturing, drying processes and heating applications, especially those with unreliable temperature feedback.
