THE NEW NRG DIGITAL SOLID STATE RELAYS WITH PHASE ANGLE AND SOFT START SWITCHING

Increased versatility with the addition of new switching capabilities.

Lainate, May 2021 - Carlo Gavazzi Automation, the international electronics group with activities in the design, manufacturing, and marketing of electronic equipment, today presents an addition to the family of NRG digital solid state relays – the NRG with phase angle and soft start switching.

The digital revolution of industrial automation is upon us. Industry specialists are focusing on IIoT systems to take the leap forward.

The NRG system of digital solid state relays fits right into this digital thread of information with the availability of monitoring and diagnostic functions on top of switching capabilities via a communication interface. Initially released in Modbus RTU, the NRG is also available in the two largest Ethernet protocols on the market: PROFINET and EtherNet/IP.

This new range of NRG solid state relays will expand the switching capabilities of the NRG system through the addition of phase angle and soft start switching. These switching modes are mainly targeted at applications utilising Short Wave Infrared heaters, which are becoming very popular in the industry. Phase angle is used to achieve a finer resolution of power for specific applications and the soft starting function limits the inrush current at start-up which can be detrimental to the heater’s lifetime.

Developed in our competence centre in Malta, the NRG has been designed to suit any heating application where precise temperature control is crucial to guarantee the quality of the end product and where unplanned machine stoppages can result in considerable losses of revenue. Typical applications are plastic injection machines, packaging machines, semiconductor manufacturing and glass tempering machines.

RSBT 45MM: THE COMPACT SELF-LEARNING SOFT STARTER FOR 3-PHASE SCROLL COMPRESSORS UP TO 15 kW

New features further enhance the product’s installation flexibility through field replaceable auxiliary relays and Modbus modules as well as multi-voltage operation.

Energy efficiency regulations in buildings are driving the need for more intelligent HVAC systems. The integration of such a system within a building management system (BMS) triggers the possibility to get more information down to component level.

As the compressor is typically the largest energy consumer in a heat pump or chiller, measuring the energy in real time gives the possibility to monitor the overall system efficiency. Apart from this, the set of data that the RSBT Modbus can measure also facilitates after sales activities such as quicker fault finding. Moreover we also offer the possibility to modify a limited set of parameters thereby giving our customers further flexibility to customise the product for specific applications.

Field replaceable auxiliary and Modbus modules are now possible to be set up on the same RSBT, which provides much more flexibility. All these features are offered in one of the most compact soft starters on the market.

“Our soft starter configuration software (SCS) allows users to visualise in a more graphical way the variables that are measured by the RSBT. Optional modules are now fully interchangeable and can be bought as separate components for total flexibility when it comes to installation. Either of the modules can be plugged into the front connector of a RSBT to enhance the product’s functionality,” Brian Gauci International Product Specialist says. “It is our intention to strengthen our products range, offering more flexible and advanced products with several intelligent features suitable for smart HVAC systems.”

Developed in our competence centre in Malta, this soft starters series has been designed to provide our customers with a more advanced product offering in the HVAC market segment, primarily for the Heat pumps and commercial refrigeration cabinets applications.

UWP 3.0 GATEWAY CONTROLLER WITH NEW SECURE IoT FUNCTIONS

Enhanced cyber security and remote operation are the main features provided by the UWP 3.0 EDGE software release.

Lainate, March 2021 - Carlo Gavazzi Automation, the international electronics group with activities in the design, manufacture and marketing of electronic equipment, today presents the new UWP 3.0 gateway controller’s software release.

The UWP 3.0 ecosystem’s purpose is to provide a secure, reliable and scalable platform for energy efficiency management, building automation and car parking guidance.

With this further upgrade, the UWP 3.0 consolidates its role as an EDGE gateway, allowing secure remote interaction of the users with the installation in the field.

The main contents of the UWP 3.0 EDGE software release are:
• Enhanced cyber security. Security capabilities have been verified obtaining the Silver Level by UL Cyber security Labs in Frankfurt (https://verify.ul.com/verifications/487). A new UWP 3.0 SE (Security Enhanced) part number with official UL marking and rating will be available.
• Additional operational functions to facilitate daily usage by users at any level, including a backup system, a smoother upgrade procedure and the UCS to UWP 3.0 bridging function to configure meters remotely.
• The new VPN (virtual private network) powered by Carlo Gavazzi, makes it possible to connect to a remote UWP 3.0 item avoiding DNS, firewall, networking issues, simply by logging into our MAIA CLOUD portal.

EIS H: ON/OFF CURRENT SENSOR

The solution for a prompt ON/OFF status detection of critical loads.

In Building automation and HVAC markets there is often the need to know the running status of pumps and fans, as their failure may cause costly consequences. The EIS H is a current level sensor to monitor the status of loads - mainly motors - whose failure must be immediately detected.

When the devices do not work as expected, the EIS H sensor immediately warns the main controller (PLC or Building Management System) in order to reduce the consequences and speed-up the recovery time.

“The EIS H sensor is a combination of compact size, which allows it to fit in very narrow spaces and a built-in current transformer. As an auxiliary power supply is not needed, the installation procedure is sped-up with no need for further adjustments, this helps to make service quicker and faultless,” Francesco Vedana, International Product Manager, says.“This launch will give us the opportunity to strengthen our position in the market by means of a wider offer.”

Developed by our Competence Centre in Italy, the EIS H current sensor is specifically designed for the ON/OFF monitoring of water circulation pumps, extractor fans and lights in the HVAC and Building automation markets.

UWP-A: LONG RANGE WIRELESS SOLUTIONS FOR ENERGY MONITORING

LoRaWAN® certified endpoint adapter for US915 MHz band.

Lainate, January 2021 - Carlo Gavazzi Automation, the international electronics group with activities in the design, manufacture and marketing of electronic equipment, today is proud to introduce an important update to our LoRaWAN® certified adapter UWP-A.

Minimizing installation costs and avoiding expensive cabling, which could have a huge impact on the project timeline, are very often the key targets in energy efficiency monitoring, cost allocation or asset management projects.

The best option in such cases is to rely on a solid and secure wireless fieldbus. The UWP-A adapter provides long range distance communication (up to 10 km) to Carlo Gavazzi’s energy meters and power analyzers, for an easy integration into existing standard LoRaWAN® gateways (private networks) and LoRaWAN® public networks (smart cities).

By working on the license free US915 MHz band, the UWP-A adapter allows North American installers to deploy the requested network of energy analyzers and easily join the available LoRaWAN® network either public or private.

The UWP-A is the key to convert any Carlo Gavazzi energy analyzer into an IIoT device, for joining a LoRaWAN® network and sending data to Energy Management Systems, Energy Billing Portals or Facility/Asset Management Solutions.
